Justice
The mission of the Congregation forever remains that of reconciliation, the
reaching out to people, especially women and girls who have experienced injustice, oppression and
alienation due to life circumstances or unjust social structures. Through our ministries
we strive to approach each person as Jesus the Good Shepherd would, awakening in each one
a sense of their own unique worth and inestimable value. We work to create programs and
nurturing environments where people can change and grow and reach their full potential.
Our commitment is to promote justice and peace and to impact those systems
and structures, which condemn some to live marginalized lives. Through our relationships
and daily commitment to living Gospel values that guide our choices, interactions and
activities, we deepen and strengthen the bonds of unity with all humanity.
"Our commitment to reconciliation demands that we promote justice and peace…"
Good Shepherd Sisters have the
unique advantage of working directly with families and children in 67
countries throughout the world. We are with the families and children in
their daily struggle for the basic necessities of life, their right to be
educated, their search for dignified work, their desire to live whole
lives free of violence and exploitation.
Good Shepherd Sisters are a
non-governmental organization with special consultative status at the
United Nations through the Economic Social Council. Through our
association with the UN we work to raise consciousness around the plight
of women and children and to effect systemic change.
