Mission:
The mission of Good Shepherd Services is to surround at-risk New York City youth
and their families with a web of supports that promote a safe passage to
self-sufficiency. To achieve our mission, we lead in the development of innovative
youth development programs; provide quality,
effective services that
strengthen participants’ connections with family, school and community; and advocate on their behalf for broader change.
Services Provided:
Each year Good Shepherd Services works with approximately 22,000 New York City children, youth and families through a broad array of programs. We offer out-of-home care that includes city-wide residences for vulnerable adolescents, as well as foster care and adoption services. Programs include a residential program for adolescent girls and group homes for youth involved with the juvenile justice system. All programs offer a safe, nurturing environment and comprehensive services and support to help at-risk youth overcome their issues and gain the skills and confidence necessary to lead healthy and productive lives. Our Chelsea Foyer provides transitional housing and support services to young adults ages 18-25, who have “aged-out” of foster care, or are homeless or at-risk of homelessness.
We also provide a broad range of community and school-based services that surround vulnerable young people and their families with a web of connection and support. The majority of these form two strong networks in Brooklyn and the Bronx, which offer Family Counseling and Support Programs, Domestic Violence Services, After-School Centers and Camps and Educational Support Services. We also offer Multiple Pathways Programs, which help over-age, under-credited youth get back on track to complete their education, including our Transfer Schools, Young Adult Borough Centers, GED Programs and Learning to Work initiatives.
Our professional development and in-service training program, the Human Services Workshops helps ensure the implementation of best practices in human service agencies across the City, and facilitates 130 annual workshops for over 2,500 direct-service staff from a wide range of public and private social service agencies and other organizations citywide.
