Associates & Companions

The Associates and Companions are men and women who are attracted by the spirituality and mission of the Good Shepherd Congregation and seek to express the values of the Gospel in their lives.

Active Associates commit themselves to seek out, to touch, to respond to people by molding themselves after Jesus, the Good Shepherd. They have a special sensitivity to oppressed people. Associates share in the spiritual riches and heritage of the Good Shepherd Congregation and support one another by coming together, and through participation in days of prayer and retreats.

Prayer Associates commit themselves to daily prayer for the mission of the Good Shepherd Family.

Companions of the Good Shepherd are Catholic laywomen who choose a consecrated way of life, grounded in Good Shepherd Spirituality. Companions live independently, but make a formal commitment to this way of life. As Companions of the Good Shepherd we are called to commit ourselves to an ever-deepening identification with Jesus the Good Shepherd. Within our own lives, we strive to make visible God’s compassionate love. Some Companions are committed through private vows of poverty, chasity, obedience and zeal.

Membership in the Companions offers you:

  • A meaning and focus to your life grounded in Good Shepherd spirituality

  • A program of spiritual development for a consecrated way of life

  • Companionship and support through meetings, retreats, and association with other members of the Congregation

  • A philosophy and an approach to ministry, especially to those in distress, which reflects the presence of the Good Shepherd

Application in the Companions is open to mature adults who are:

  • Committed Catholics

  • Self-supporting

  • Inspired by the Good Shepherd

  • Ready to take another step in their spiritual journey

After a period of development and formation in Good Shepherd spirituality, the Companion may make a formal commitment to the Lord and to the Companion Way of Life. She may express this commitment by annual private vows or solemn promises. This commitment is intended to be a life-long consecration.
