The Rose Center is named after Saint Mary Euphrasia(nee Rose Virginie Pelletier). Located in center city
Scranton, it provides community-wide mediation and conflict resolution services and training aimed at reducing violence
and interpersonal conflicts within society.
The Rose Center resulted from a direction statement formulated in 1996 regarding the Good Shepherd Congregational stand
on non-violence. Stated most simply, "reconciliation" is the mission of the Sisters in their delivery of human
services around the world. As the Congregation of the Sisters of Good Shepherd is an official Non-Governmental Organization (NGO)
in special status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), issues of justice and non-violence
are a constant theme of the work of the Sisters globally.
It is this dimension of mission which impels the Sisters toward mediation development as a primary method of conflict resolution to reduce the
threat of violence in our community. Resolution is approached in peaceful, respectful ways that not only resolve problems, but also
restore strained relationships. The Rose Center's programs are aimed especially at helping the disadvantaged in society.
